You have a few app pages open, each one is described somewhere as the best, and none of them tells you the thing you want to know: which one will still be worth the subscription in a month. The awkward part of trying to compare AI girlfriend apps is that the part you can try for free is the part they all do well, and the part you are actually paying for does not show itself until the second week. Why a ranked list cannot settle it for you

A test you can run in a week
The practical way to compare AI girlfriend apps is to run two side by side for a week. Two, not four. Three is already more conversation than most people have the appetite for, and the comparison gets worse rather than better as you add candidates, because you end up giving each one less of the sustained attention that the differences only show up under.
Write your character brief once, in a notes app, and paste the same text into both. A few lines is enough: who the character is, how they talk, one thing they are supposed to care about. If you improvise separately in each app you will spend the week comparing your own two descriptions rather than the two products.
Then run the same three checks in both.
- The recall check. On day one, mention something specific and slightly odd — a plan for Thursday, a thing you dislike, the name of a place. On day four, raise the subject sideways without repeating the detail and see whether it comes back, comes back wrong, or never existed.
- The steering check. Mid-conversation, change direction: ask the character to be blunter, or to stop asking questions, or to drop a topic. Note whether the change survives past the next few messages.
- The boundary check. Ask for something the personality settings say the character should not do. You are not trying to break it; you are finding out whether the settings are a control or a costume.
Two lines of notes a day is enough, because the thing you will want at the end of the week is your day-two impression, which you will otherwise have quietly rewritten. What to check before the first charge
Once you have picked one, subscribe to one. Running two paid subscriptions in parallel sounds rigorous and mostly buys you two half-used accounts, since attention, not access, is the scarce thing in this comparison.
If you do overlap them, know the store mechanics before you need them rather than after. Apple's guidance is to cancel a trial at least 24 hours before it ends, so a reminder set for two days out is the practical version of that rule. On Google Play, cancelling does not cut you off immediately — you keep the subscription until the period you have paid for runs out, and an authorisation hold can appear on your card shortly before a renewal date, which is not by itself evidence that a cancellation failed.
Two more things people learn the expensive way. Deleting the app does not cancel the subscription, because the subscription lives with the store rather than the app. And if you cancel and later resubscribe, an introductory price or trial you have already used will usually not be offered again, so the cheap month you remember is not necessarily the price of coming back.
